Unlawful Ad-Lib Legislation Takes The Stage
What do you do when you can’t erase something? You use white out. Many formal legal documents will be declined if white out is used. Not in Maui County. If you are the self-proclaimed Chair of the County Council you can white out anything you want. Corporate counsel lawyers that have years of historical intellect, directors, clerks, emails, the sunshine law and even administrative assistants of your fellow council members.
Apparently, this is the subject of a communication that did not follow process and was not discussed in any committee. This so called “Legislative Branch Organization” (17-484, amendment to 2.08.050) is a pompous piece of reckless writing by the so-called Chair of the Maui County Council Mike White. There is an open lawsuit arguing the legitimacy of this claim of the status “Chair”. The reasons for petitioning the courts against his premature announcement of being Chair is similar to this communication to be discussed Friday at full council meeting. Email etiquette.
Itʻs pretty simple, emails from our elected officials should be originated by the said formally issued emails if conducting government business. There is a fine line on personal emails vs. professional emails. There will always be a transition from personal emails to using formal email. This is basic office protocol to ensure any new personnel that is coming into the office is able to look at the archive of important correspondence. Mike White has failed using email etiquette from Day One. He used incorrect email process to send a press release naming himself Chair before a full council had even met. He rerouted fellow councilmember’s emails and he outright blocked others.
This late ad-lib legislation that will be heard tomorrow at the Maui County Council chambers is one for the books. It just might be the opportune time to throw the book at him. There are multiple laws that make this impassable but the repeated arrogance has hundreds of people emailing and many more coming to demand testify that using White Out ought not be allowed in Maui County.
This is not just a communication; this is gross intent and massive abuse of power. If you value transparency please consider emailing or testifying in person tomorrow.
Communication: “Legislative Branch Organization”, 17-484.
