Illegal Tour Operators Create Crowds

About

Faith Ewbank, a 47-year resident of Maui, is a mother and grandmother who has testified at many Maui County and Hawaii State hearings. Her interest in island agriculture inspired her recent turn from graphic design to writing.

A concerted effort to deal with the overcrowding of Maui’s delicate east side has brought residents and businesses together. A new organization, Hana Highway Regulation Authority, has developed mechanisms to inform the Public Utilities Commission, Maui County government officials, and the Department of Transportation about illegal tour operations.

Residents are also helping to share news about illegal tour operators who are inundating the fragile tropical rainforest along Maui’s Hana Highway. Meeting topics and associated conversation resemble concerns Maui County’s Cost of Government Commission has been having recently.
